Stage 5 of 5: Live
The problem
Councils field thousands of calls a month asking “which bin is it this week?”. Every council builds its own lookup, usually as a PDF calendar nobody can find.
01 About this project
What it does
Residents enter a postcode, pick their address, and see their next collections with add to calendar links and bank-holiday changes.
How to reuse it
- Install the
localgov_waste_findermodule (a LocalGov Drupal sub-module) - Map your waste system's export to the CSV or JSON adapter
- Configure the bin types and colours in the admin UI
composer require localgovdrupal/localgov_waste_finder
drush en localgov_waste_finder -y
drush waste-finder:import /path/to/rounds.csv
Results so far
Brighton & Hove saw a 38% drop in bin-day phone calls in the first three months.
02 Who needs this
Every “we need this too” tells the team where their work will be reused. One stroke per organisation.
GDDN is a members-only network for people working on Drupal in government. Join to tell this team your organisation needs it too.
