WCAG 2.2 has been the standard for a while now, but many audits we see still test against 2.1. These are the new criteria that most often fail on government Drupal themes, and how we fixed each one.
2.4.11 Focus Not Obscured (Minimum)
Sticky headers and cookie banners are the usual cause. Add scroll-padding-top that matches your header height:
html { scroll-padding-top: 5rem; }
2.5.7 Dragging Movements
Drupal's tabledrag already has a "Show row weights" fallback, but custom sortable widgets often don't. Every drag action needs a single-pointer alternative, such as up and down buttons.
2.5.8 Target Size (Minimum)
Targets must be at least 24×24 CSS pixels. Pager links and tag "×" buttons fail most often. We added a utility class to the base theme and used it everywhere.
3.3.7 Redundant Entry
Multi-step Webforms that ask for the same address twice fail this one. Use Webform's tokens to prefill earlier answers.
3.3.8 Accessible Authentication (Minimum)
Don't block pasting into password fields, and support password managers by using the right autocomplete values. This site does both. Check the login form.
The Accessibility working group runs a monthly clinic where you can bring a theme and get a live review. Details are in Events.
